WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS?
Essential Oils are super concentrated plant extracts that have been used for centuries for health benefits, as in Traditional Chinese Medicine and other eastern medicine practices. The cool thing about essential oils is that they are 50-70 times more concentrated and powerful than the dried herb form of the plant! This means that you only need a few drops for maximum benefit to the body. Your body can heal itself by itself when given the proper foundation to do so. This means proper nutrition and supplements, exercise, rest and informed self care. Research is showing that most diseases today are caused by too much inflammation in the body. Essential oils work with the body to maintain proper function of all your bodily systems.
HOW ARE THEY USED?
Using essential oils doesn't have to be complicated, just open the bottle and sniff! Our sense of smell is so powerful and has incredible health benefits, including uplifting the mood, inducing more restful sleep, and maintaining open airways. Diffusing essential oils is another great way to use the oils aromatically. They not only make your home smell great, they clean + purify the air too. Win, win, win!
Many essential oils are safe to consume internally. However, be sure the bottle says "Essential Oil Supplement" AND "Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade" before taking any oils internally. You can put 1-2 drops of your favorite citrus oil in your water to make it taste better and support the body's natural detoxification system. Internal use also helps with occasional digestive discomfort, healthy immune function, and detoxification + elimination.
Sometimes we need more localized support, that's where topical use of essential oils comes in handy. You can safely apply essential oils to the skin wherever you need more support. If you are new to oils, it is highly recommended that you start by diluting a couple drops (you don't need much, a little goes a long way) with a teaspoon of fractionated coconut oil -- especially on children, babies, and anyone with sensitive skin. The soles of the feet are great place to use oils topically, as they enter our system quickly this way.
